Kev the Kiwi helps school student access tablets

Newly developed New Zealand fundraising app Kev the Kiwi aims to bring technology into the hands of more New Zealand youngsters. A first of its kind, it was developed by Stuart Dillon-Roberts from the Digital Office.

The app sees loveable character ‘Kev’ travelling across New Zealand, completing a range of challenges in order to prove he is ready to be the next Prime Minister of New Zealand. It is packed with iconic New Zealand activities and locations from bungy jumping in Queenstown to climbing Mt Cook.

“Kev the Kiwi was created to help fund the use of digital technology in school classrooms. All proceeds will help fund our tablets in schools scheme,” Mr Dillon-Roberts says. “We also hope that children will enjoying playing the game.”

Tablets in Schools was established by the Digital Office to provide support for schools that want to expose their children to tablets, but don’t have the resources, skills or money to make it happen. New or used tablets are donated, and volunteer ‘Digital Ambassadors’ assist teachers and children to understand the technology, maximising its use in the classroom.

To bring this scheme to more schools the Digital Office relies on community support. The office hopes ‘Kev The Kiwi’ will draw attention to the cause, and provide much needed funding.

You can support the fundraising in the following ways:

  • Download the Kev the Kiwi Game via iTunes
  • Donate via the Facebook page

  • Buy Kev the Kiwi Merch on Cafe Press
  • Donate a device.

The Digital Office is a not-for-profit organisation reliant on local businesses and the community for support and funding. It is governed by a charitable trust.

It has a goal is to improve access to digital services, encourage more digital participation and explain the benefits of being online through the delivery of digital projects and initiatives.
