Budget 2021 contains a raft of funding for the education sector with approximately $1.9 billion in new operating funding, and approximately $760 million of capital funding for new assets over the next four years.
Funding highlights include:
Curriculum reform and work force supports in early learning and schooling
Improving pathways between educational and employment, and for Māori educational success as Māori
The creation of a more supported system that is more responsive to the needs of ākonga and their whānau (including an education service agency within a redesigned Ministry of Education)
School property to ensure students have access to quality teaching and learning environments and to help prevent overcrowding in schools
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said. “This new funding will help to build towards the goal of building a more equitable and inclusive world class public education that provides all ākonga with a solid foundation to be successful in work and in life.”
